Reporter: Aishwariya, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind or what’s the one thing that you really look out when you sign a brand. Say like Longines?

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan: With Longines, it was an easy yes. Incredible history and the brand definitely belong to the watch business and their motto is – ‘elegance is an attitude’. I absolutely saw eye to eye with them instantly. So it was an easy yes.

Reporter: Everyone seem to be talking about Paa. So, what’s your say on this role reversal plot?

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan: Well, I obviously knew about the idea of the film Paa. I think Balki was brilliant in coming out of the story so conceptually and creatively.

Reporter: Talking about social networking sites we find Amitabh Bachchan keeps in touch with his fans through his blogs. Also Abhishek is on Twitter and he has thousand of fans following him. So are we going to see you on Twitter?

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan: Possibly with my own website. Definitely when it comes to social networking sites there are so many imposters that people are convinced I am already on these social sites. I am not so far. On my birthday I was so tempted to get on to possibly Twitter, because of the kind of overwhelming response I have received from well-wishers. So one thing is sure that I will announce through media, the moment I am on any on these sites or I start my own.

Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, who was assaulted by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) MLAs in the Assembly for taking oath in Hindi, has said that he is now learning Marathi to face Raj Thackeray in a TV debate next year. He has reportedly hired a tutor, who is teaching him Marathi language.

Abu Azmi said that after entering the state assembly, he realised that he need to learn Marathi, while it was not needed when he was in Parliament. He also expressed confidence that he will learn the language within a year to face Raj Thackeray in a TV debate. He also acknowledged that it was necessary for an MLA for Maharashtra to know Marathi.

Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar and a dead Ahmedabad pitch took Sri Lanka’s dream of a first Test win in India to within a session – perhaps half – of its death. Gambhir played out 110 deliveries for 40 runs, and Tendulkar 145 for 55 runs; both of them looked entirely at home in the role of saving a Test, going through score-less spells, and not letting it affect their minds.

The only break in concentration came when in the second session Gambhir stepped out to launch Rangana Herath out of the ground, and ended up losing his wicket. That was not before he had reached his seventh century: four of them – and all of his last three – have come in the second innings, two of them in match-saving scenarios. He now averages 59.55 in the second innings, as opposed to a 54.22 overall.

Sri Lanka were not helped by the hamstring injury to Dammika Prasad, who didn’t bowl in the first session, and Muttiah Muralitharan’s ineffectiveness: he is yet to take a wicket in 32 second-innings overs. Previously Murali had gone wicketless in the second innings of a match only six times; the most he had bowled in such scenarios was 17 overs. Their problems on the unhelpful pitch were summed up by how Amit Mishra, nightwatchman from yesterday, got to his personal best score and frustrated them for 26 deliveries on the fifth morning. The only time when he looked like getting out was when a low, dying offering from him was dropped by Tillakaratne Dilshan at second slip. Nine overs later, when Mishra did get out, it was to a freak catch by Dilshan off a proper flick shot, low to his right, at leg gully.

Gambhir, at the other end, was in his Napier-like mode from earlier this year, when he batted 643 minutes for 137 runs to save the Test. Even today, he was not interested in scoring, or in other words he didn’t let being stuck at one end bother him much. Angelo Mathews bowled well in Prasad’s absence, hitting good lengths consistently, getting some of them to stay low and getting the odd one to seam away off the rare crack on the pitch. But Gambhir took most of the strike to him, playing 30 consecutive balls from Mathews for no run in the first hour, good in his judgement outside off, and coming forward to straighter deliveries to negate the odd shooter.

Against spinners, Gambhir preferred to stay back, or jump out of the track and get close enough to the delivery. He did pull out the big hits in the 90s, as he is used to doing because he prefers to get the 90s done with quickly. He took 61 deliveries to move from overnight 74 to 90, but then hit three boundaries in six balls to reach his century quickly. And then scored two runs in 25 deliveries. The approach in the 90s was similar to that in Napier, when he stepped out and lofted Daniel Vettori and Jeetan Patel for fours in consecutive overs.

Post lunch, when Gambhir played his only rash, he left the saunter towards safety in Tendulkar’s hand. He had started off fluently, driving Murali against the spin for two boundaries, and punching Mathews for one, and once he got comfortable in the middle he too opted to play for time. Between them Gambhir and Tendulkar played out 24 overs. The latter had reached 32 off 75 deliveries, and slowed down furthermore.

Sri Lanka threw one of the last dices, taking new ball, getting Prasad to bowl despite the injury. But neither Prasad nor Chanaka Welegedara could find enough from the pitch to disturb Tendulkar or VVS Laxman. For a while Tendulkar shut shop completely, scoring three runs in the next 26 deliveries. By that time he had reached 30,000 international runs, and it seemed torturous to make the fast bowlers keep bowling on this pitch.

The spinners came back on, the match started moving towards a slow draw again. By tea Tendulkar had crossed 50 and looked good for a 88th international century, India had erased the deficit, and Tendulkar and Laxman had played out another 24 overs.

The director spoke to Syed Firdaus Ashraf about the highs of lows of his career.

Did you expect such a good response for Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani?

I knew people would like it, especially youngsters. When we edit and watch the trial, we come to know. But no one can predict the response. The film had a lot of innocence.

How has the attitude of the movie industry changed after this success?

The corporate people are calling me now!

Artistes have always respected my work. As far as the trade is concerned, it changes every Friday. I don’t go to parties or meet stars other than the ones I am working with.

I am an introvert. I don’t like to hang around with people without purpose because I don’t drink. That’s another problem. How many Cokes can I have in a party?

What kept you away from romantic comedies despite the success of Andaz Apna Apna?

I go by my own emotions and pick subjects that inspire me. When I made my first film Ghayal with Sunny Deol, it was a phenomenal success. But I did not make another action film after that. I made a heroine-oriented film, Damini. Then I made Andaz Apna Apna. If you see my career graph, it’s always been like this.

I did Lajja, a woman-oriented film, and Khakee, a police thriller. I never repeat myself; I don’t like doing that. I always want to explore new territories; that gives me a high.

Comedy, of course, comes naturally to me. But I don’t want to cash on it. There was a lot of pressure on me to do a sequel to Andaz Apna Apna, but I didn’t.

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Popular TV actress Tanaaz Currim, the latest contestant to be evicted out of reality show ‘Bigg Boss 3′ is so angry with co-participant, fashion designer Rohit Verma, that she wants to ‘go back and slap him’.

‘Rohit has enraged me so much with his attitude and backbiting on the show that I really want to go back and slap him for ruining my name,’ Tanaaz, who was evicted Friday, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

While Verma, Tanaaz and her husband Bakhtiyaar, who too is on the show, were good friends in the initial episodes, they didn’t gel well later on.

‘I am amazed to know what all he (Verma) said behind our backs. What is he? Who is he? He says he is a well-known fashion designer, but he should see what he’s wearing. I’ll be obliged to know another person who wears Rohit Verma creations other than Rohit himself,’ said Tanaaz.

‘There is not one thing to like about him. What can I like about him?,’ she added.

The actress, known for her light-hearted performances in shows like ‘Zaban Sambhal Ke’ and films like ‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai’ and ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’, was evicted from the show Friday. She was nominated along with Bakhtiyaar.

Now she wants to go back to the show as a wildcard entry ‘to put people in their places’.

‘I am hopeful about re-entering the show through a wildcard entry so that I can teach them a lesson. They really need to be put in their places,’ she said.

According to Tanaaz, every person should ‘experience the show at least once – but just once’.

Tanaaz had arguments and a difference of opinion because of her outspoken ways with many people on the show. But she doesn’t feel it has harmed her public image in any way.

‘The show has shown me as a stronger person – the way I am. Till now, everyone knew of Tanaaz as the bubbly girl who likes a lot of comedy, but this show proved that I’m not just about comedy – I have a heart, a soul, a mind. And I am quite well-settled with it all.

‘I also think that’s what made people jealous. They were scared I will win and that’s why there was so much backbiting,’ she added.

Now that she is out, she plans to make up for her lost time with her one and a half-year-old son Zeus and also go on a crash diet to lose weight.

She hopes that her husband Bakhtiyaar stays on the show and that ‘he wins’.

Mumbai Nov 13 (IANS) Composer-singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya, whose last two films bombed at the box office, says that the money invested in his forthcoming release has already been recovered through its music.

‘Radio’ was made at a budget of Rs.60 million. ‘Thankfully, the money invested in making the film was recovered through music,’ Reshammiya told IANS.

His last release ‘Karzzzz’ couldn’t recover the money because it was made at Rs.420 million, says Reshammiya.

‘The makers spent Rs.420 million in the making of ‘Karzzzz’. It was impossible to recover the money only through music,’ he said.

Reshammiya, who debuted as an actor with ‘Aap Kaa Surroor’, is hoping to strike gold at the box office with ‘Radio’, which is releasing Dec 3. He has teamed up with Sonal Sehgal and Shehnaz Treasurywala in his third acting venture.

‘My last two films were super flops but my instinct says that this one will do well,’ said Reshammiya who has completed 100 films as a composer with ‘Radio’.

Apparently Ramdas has already met Aamir a couple of times and the actor told him that he loved the puppeteer’s talent and had been a big admirer right from the time Ramdas used to do a show on Doordarshan. Aamir (see pic) will also be dressed the way Ramdas used to in the 1970s and 80s, with long sideburns and sport a hairstyle Ramdas was known for.

Activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal today staged a protest here against the release of Bollywood movie London Dreams alleging it contained sequences that hurt Hindu sentiments and threatened to stall its screening if the sequence was not deleted.

The saffron outfit workers, led by VHP’s city unit president Pawan Srivastava, staged the demonstration at the collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate explaining their opposition to the Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn-starrer which hit the screens today.
They alleged the movie contained an “obscene dance sequence” played to the tune of sacred ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, which was “nothing short of blasphemy” and warned screening of the movie at all theatres in the city will be stalled unless the objectionable scene was deleted.

Though rumours of a break-up have
been brewing…..

for a while, it’s now clear that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika
Padukone have ended their relationship. Though various theories have been
floating about the cause of their break-up, here’s the real reason why the
two have parted ways.Immediate
speculation will point to Ranbir’s chemistry with Katrina Kaif. It’s
hasty to pin the blame on Katrina though, as Deepika had seemed insecure before
the pretty actress came into the picture. And it’s not Ma Kapoor that put
the spanner in the works either.

Ranbir,
after all, is a hot-blooded Kapoor. He is a natural charmer as far as women go
and sooner or later, Deepika would have heard about his flirtations. Apparently,
Ranbir isn’t too modest about it either. Discretion about his
less-than-innocent encounters would’ve been highly advisable, but he
hasn’t exactly been a poster-boy for it so far. Common friends carried the
news to Deepika, perhaps adding a bit of tadka for flavour.

This
is when Deepika decided to call it off. Apparently, she told Ranbir to mend his
ways since she had given a lot to this relationship. She had cut off ties with
all her ‘good friends’ like Nihar Pandya and Yuvraaj Singh. So, she
wanted Ranbir to give 100 per cent to the relationship as well. She kept hearing
about his ‘friendship’ with Nandita Mahtani and other girls.
At
this point of time, Ranbir started feeling suffocated in his relationship with
Deepika. He asked for his space and Deepika justifiably wanted to know
‘What space? Aren’t we a couple?’
The
final straw was hearing about his ‘crackling chemistry’ with
Katrina. The next thing she did was to land up on the sets of Rajneeti in
Bhopal, where Ranbir was shooting with Katrina. She stayed there for nearly two weeks.

After
she came back from Bhopal, her relationship with Rishi Kapoor and Neetu
Singh’s son was almost over. The crack first became evident at Shabina
Khan’s birthday party two weeks ago where the two sat in different corners
of the room.
And
what about Neetu Singh? Mamma Neetu, who is said to have a very cold
relationship with Deepika, did not play catalyst. A source says, “Neetu
wants Ranbir to be happy. She will never go against his choice. Ranbir always
treated Deepika as a girlfriend and not as someone special, basically there was
no passion in their relationship.”
